Bharat Biotech Nasal Spray Vaccine For COVID 19 Update | Single COVID 19 Vaccine Dose Boosts Protection

In most cases of Covid-19, the coronavirus was found to enter the body through the mucosa and infect the cells and molecules in the mucosal membrane. This question can be solved if the vaccine is given through the nose. Due to which the whole world is working hard to find an alternative to the nasal vaccine.

According to Dr. VK Paul, a member of the Policy Commission (Health), if the nasal vaccine is successful, it will prove to be a 'game changer' in the epidemic. The main reason is that anyone can get this vaccine on their own.

Krishna Ella, MD, Bharat Biotech, said that the injectable vaccine can only protect the lower lungs, not the upper nose and lungs. They further said that even if you take a single dose of nasal vaccine you can prevent the infection. Which will also break the transmission chain. This will also be a polio-like vaccine, with 2-2 drops in both nostrils and a total of 4 drops.

Benefits of Nasal Vaccine

  • Vaccines do not need to be injected

  • Health workers do not even need to be trained

  • There is no danger of spreading the infection through breathing

  • The chances of vaccine waste will decrease

  • The question of storage will also be resolved

How will the nasal vaccine be different from other vaccines?

There are also different ways to get vaccinated. Some are taken by injection, some oral vaccines such as polio and rotavirus. Also, some vaccines are given through the nose. The injected vaccine is injected into the skin of the body through a needle. The nasal vaccine is also given through the nose, not through the hands and mouth. This targets the virus in the mucosal membrane. Intramuscular vaccines or injections do not succeed in producing such an immune system from the mucosa. Due to which it depends on the immune system of other parts of the body.

So far 175 people have been given the nasal vaccine

In April, Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech obtained permission to test the first phase of the intranasal vaccine, BBV154. This approval was given by the expert committee of the Drug Control General of India. According to the Clinical Trials Registry, 175 people have been vaccinated. These are divided into 3 groups. The first and second groups have 70 volunteers and the third group has 35 volunteers. The first group will be given the single-dose vaccine at the first visit and the placebo will be given on the 28th day. In addition, the second group will be given two doses, one on the first day and the other on the 28th day of the intranasal vaccine. The third group will be given either placebo or intranasal vaccine on the first day and on the 28th day.

So far 17.51 crore people have been vaccinated in the country

So far, the third phase of vaccination is underway in the country. The vaccine is given to people over 18 years of age. So far, a total of 17 crores 51 lakh 71 thousand 482 people have been vaccinated against coronavirus in the country. A total of more than 136.5 million people have been given the first dose, while more than 38.5 million people have been given the second dose. There is currently 2 coronavirus vaccines Covishield and Covacin vaccine being administered to people in the country.
