Virtual training design doesn't need to be difficult, especially when you take advantage of the tools and features available in virtual classrooms like Cisco WebEx and Adobe Connect. One thing that you really need to consider, though, is that because the virtual classroom is not the same as the traditional classroom, you have to adapt engagement techniques in order to create meaningful, learner-centered programs. Without consistent engagement, virtual classroom participants will get bored. This is where virtual classroom tools come in to play. Including them in your instructional design battles learner boredom and disengagement. You can engage as frequently as needed, ideally every three to five minutes. By using the virtual classroom toolkit effectively and appropriately to encourage engagement, you can achieve the ultimate goal in e-learning - training that sticks.
